Pair attempt to steal over $1K from Grimsby Superstore: police

Both face multiple charges as a result

On Tuesday March 15, 2022, officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service were taking part in the 2022 NRPS Spring Food Drive at the Superstore in Grimsby. 

Multiple uniformed officers were positioned at the main entrance greeting shoppers and accepting food and cash donations. At approximately 11:30 a.m. Superstore staff members approached the officers to report that a man and woman in the store were observed stealing merchandise.   Officers entered the store with staff but were not able to locate the man and woman.  A search of the immediate parking lot located the couple and multiple bags of merchandise (cosmetics, toys, beer).  The merchandise valued at $1,171 had not been paid for and was stolen.

The man and woman were arrested without incident.  The merchandise was returned to the store undamaged.

Dalhia Marie Komenda (25 years old) and Lucas James Latka (30 years old) both of Wainfleet have been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Theft Under $5,000 - Section 334(b), Criminal Code
  • Disobey Order of Court - Section 127(1), Criminal Code

The couple were both released from police custody on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.
