One airlifted to hospital following stabbing in Niagara Falls

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019, 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers were called to a residence in the area of Maple Street and 3rd Avenue in the city of Niagara Falls following an altercation.

When officers arrived, they discovered two males with injuries. One male was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital for treatment of serious injuries resulting from a stab wound.

The other male was taken to hospital for treatment and subsequently charged.

Fifty-four-year old Mark Skinner of the City of Niagara Falls is facing the following alleged charges:
    •    aggravated assault
    •    two counts of disarm police officer
    •    assault to resist arrest

Skinner is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

As a result of injuries sustained during the arrest of the suspect, the Province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their investigative mandate outlined in Ontario Regulation 267/10 under the Police Services Act.
