Niagara Falls man facing theft, drug charges as part of stolen catalytic converter investigation

In late March of 2021, detectives from the 2 District – Niagara Falls began an investigation into the theft of catalytic converters in Niagara Falls. Detectives from the 1 District- St. Catharines Street Crime Unit assisted in this investigation.

As a result of that investigation detectives were able to identify a male suspect. The suspect was found to be connected to five separate incidents that occurred in the city of Niagara Falls and St. Catharines between March 23 and March 30, 2021. These incidents involved the theft of catalytic converters from parked vehicles, and the theft of two utility trailers.

On March 30, 2021, Travis T. Gillan (51 years old) of Niagara Falls was arrested in relation to the ongoing investigation. At the time of his arrest, Gillan was found to be in possession of suspected illegal drugs. Gillian has been arrested and charged with the offences of:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000 (two counts)
  • Mischief under $5,000 (two counts)

Gillan was held in custody for a bail hearing that was held on March 31, 2021. He was released from custody by the courts with a future court date of May 13, 2021.
