Niagara Falls drvier facing impaired charges north of Huntsville

The charges come after police received a traffic complaint about a potentially impaired driver

On Tuesday 20 of July, 2021 at approximately 6:55 p.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call for a traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver, on Ontario Street. Shortly after police located the driver and vehicle.

Police investigation revealed that Ivo Spirov, 53 years of age, of Niagara Falls, Ont. had consumed alcoholic beverages and was subsequently arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC), 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC, and
  • Operation while prohibited, contrary to section 18(1)(a) of the CC - 2 counts.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday Aug. 26, 2021 in Sundridge Ont.
