Murder charge laid in connection with Fort Erie homicide

Police believe the victim and accused knew each other and don't consider the incident to be random

The Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit continues to investigate circumstances of 74-year-old Desmond Teague who was reported missing by his family on Friday Sept. 30, 2022.

On Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, at approximately 4 pm, Homicide Detectives assisted by members of the 5 District (Fort Erie) Detective Services Branch arrested a male in relation to this incident. 

As a result of this investigation, 36-year-old Curtis Desjarlais of no fixed address is charged with the following offences:

  • second degree murder, contrary to Section 235(1) of the Criminal Code, and
  • indignity to a human body, contrary to Section 182(b) of the Criminal Code.

Desjarlais is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.

Detectives would like to thank members of the public for their support and assistance in this matter. 

Police believe that the victim and accused in this matter were known to each other and that this was not a random incident.
