On March 6, 2019, CBSA and CSEU officers arrested a male party at Pearson International Airport on a number of arrest warrants as he returned to Canada from the United States. As a result of this ongoing investigation, Mr. Jonathan Sabovitch-Latour, aged 25 years, was arrested and charged by the OPP with:

The accused was remanded into custody and his next court appearance is scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catherines on March 13, 2019.

The Ontario Provincial Police along with our partners, will continue to aggressively identify and pursue individuals who use technology to exploit children. “
"This is a great example of how transient these offenders can be. We know these crimes are borderless and this is a fantastic example of teamwork amongst the involved agencies.  I wish to personally thank each involved officer and agency for your continued dedication to protecting children wherever they are,” said Staff Sergeant Sharon Hanlon of the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit. "I have a message for anyone thinking they can sexually exploit our children then move on - You can run but you can't hide. Find a corner you feel safe but understand we are coming in after you and will hold you accountable."

The OPP's Child Sexual Exploitation Unit is a proud member of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet, which consists of 27 partnering agencies working collaboratively to rescue victims and combat child exploitation. This strategy has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Parents are reminded to take a proactive approach to help protect their children from online sexual exploitation by speaking with their children regarding internet safety. Parents can find resources to assist them here.
