Man wanted for North Bay armed robbery nabbed in St. Catharines

On Aug. 16, 2022, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) received information from the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) that a wanted individual who is alleged to have committed an armed robbery involving a firearm in North Bay, was believed to be in the Region of Niagara.

On Aug. 17, 2022, at 9:05 a.m  officers assigned to the Emergency Task Unit (ETU), with assistance from 1 District Street Crime detectives, located and arrested the male in the area of Montebello Park, in the City of St. Catharines.

Search incident to arrest revealed a loaded Glock 9mm handgun inside a cross-strapped satchel being worn by the suspect across his torso.

Joshua Shirley (26 years) of London is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited device
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a restricted firearm without holding a licence
  • Possession of a firearm, weapon or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

Shirley remains in police custody and is being held for a bail hearing scheduled to take place on Aug. 18, 2022, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the city of St. Catharines.
