Hammer used to smash cabinet during jewelry theft attempt

On Jan. 28, 2019, uniform officers from 1 District St. Catharines responded to Karat Jewelers located in the Fairview Mall at 285 Geneva St. in response to a robbery.

Officers learned that shortly after 10 a.m., two males attended the store in an attempt to steal jewelry. One of the males brandished a hammer and used it to smash a locked glass cabinet in an attempt to access the jewelry. The store owner and a customer were able to fend off the males before they were able to obtain any items. The two suspects fled on foot. A Police Canine Unit attended the area and conducted a track without success.

Suspect 1 is described as:
    •    male
    •    black
    •    18-25
    •    5'9"-6'
    •    160-180 lbs
    •    slim build
    •    black afro style hair
    •    possibly wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans

Suspect 2 is described as:
    •    male
    •    white
    •    18-25
    •    5'9" - 6'
    •    160-180 lbs
    •    slim build
    •    blond hair
