Fort Erie man accused of shoving, attempting to punch employees during robbery at cannabis store

On Jan. 13, 2022, at approximately 3:35 p.m., 5 District Fort Erie uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a report of a robbery at a cannabis retail store in Fort Erie.

Officers arrived on scene at the Village Cannabis Co. store on Ridgeway Road in the Town of Fort Erie.  The initial investigation determined that a male had entered the store and attempted to purchase cannabis with a debit card that would not work.  The male suspect then forced his way behind the counter shoving an employee and attempting to punch another.  The suspect ran from the store with a quantity of cannabis.

Officers searched the area and located the suspect a short distance away smoking cannabis.  The suspect was arrested.  A search of the suspect resulted in officers locating and seizing a portion of the stolen cannabis.

Seth Curtis Woelke (22 years) of Fort Erie has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:

  • Robbery - contrary to Sec.344(1)(b) CC  
  • Fail to comply with probation order - contrary to Sec.733.1(1) CC

Woelke was held in custody and attended a video bail hearing on Jan. 13, 2022, at the Robert S. K. Welch courthouse in St. Catharines.

The employees were not physically injured.
