Driver who hit Fort Erie house charged with impaired

May 21 crash caused significant damage and the home was deemed no longer safer for occupancy

June 3 update:
Officers from the 5 District Fort Erie office of the Niagara Regional Police Service have continued to investigate this incident.

As a result of the investigation officers were able to identify a male suspect driver. Further information was also obtained that the involved SUV was driving in a dangerous manner in the moments leading up to the collision.

On May 27, 2022, officers attended a St. Catharines home and arrested the registered owner of the SUV.

Chaz McLean-Hill (32 years) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the criminal offences of:
    •    Dangerous operation of motor vehicle – Sec. 320.13(1) CC
    •    Impaired operation of a motor vehicle – Sec. 320.14(1)(a)

Mclean-Hill was released from custody with a future court date.

Original May 23 release:
On Saturday, May 21, 2022 at approximately 12:43 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of an SUV in to a house in Fort Erie (Crystal Beach).

Our 5 District – Fort Erie officers arrived on scene and found a man who had been in the home at the time of the collision being treated by Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics. His injuries were believed to be minor. A woman who also had been in the home at the time was uninjured.

The black 2017 GMC Yukon had struck the corner of the house on Ridgeway Road between Erie Road and Graeber Avenue. The Yukon caused significant damage and the home was deemed no longer safer for occupancy by Fort Erie Fire Services personnel.

The owner of the Yukon who happened to be on scene, reports the SUV was stolen from a bar on Erie Road where they had been. Witnesses at the collision report seeing a male run from the scene who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.  The driver was not located.

Damage estimates are not available currently.

Anyone (residents or businesses) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between midnight and 1:30 a.m. on May 21, 2022.
