On June 28, 2022, at 8:50 p.m., 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in St. Catharines.

A member of the public contacted the NRPS Communications Unit after they watched a white 1999 Pontiac Grand-Am at the intersection of Lake Street and Dufferin Street in the City of St. Catharines strike a telephone pole and stop sign.   The now damaged Pontiac then fled the scene.

At approximately 8:56 pm officers located the Pontiac in the area of Geneva Street at St. Paul Street.  Out of a concern for public safety, multiple police cruisers strategically boxed the Pontiac in to prevent it from moving further.

The subsequent investigation by officers led to the arrest of the driver (the lone occupant of the Pontiac).

Sheen Thomas Casey (28 years) of Welland was arrested and charged with the offences of:

  • Impaired Operation/Conveyance by Alcohol, Sec. 320.14(1)(a) CC
  • Impaired Operation/Conveyance/Exceed Blood Alcohol, Sec. 320.14(1)(b) CC
  • Dangerous Operation, Sec. 320.13(1) CC
  • Fail to Remain, Sec. 200(1)(a) HTA
  • Owner Operate Motor Vehicle Without Insurance, Sec. 2(1)(a) CAIA

Casey has been issued an Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS).  The ADLS, is issued to everyone charged with similar impaired driving offences.  The ADLS prohibits him from operating a motor vehicle for 90 days from date it was issued.

Casey was later released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date of July 29, 2022, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the officers at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1024233.
