Cyclist suffers serious injuries in St. Catharines collision

On Aug. 27, 2020 at approximately 11:05 p.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) 1 District – St. Catharines officers responded to a report of a collision involving a minivan and man on a bike in St. Catharines.

Officers arrived on scene in the area of Westchester Crescent and Glenridge Avenue. The initial investigation determined that a westbound white Dodge Caravan had been collided with a cyclist at the intersection.

The 40-year-old man from St. Catharines who was riding the bike was treated on scene by Niagara EMS paramedics and transported to a local hospital with what was believed to be life-threatening injuries. He was subsequently transported by Ornge Air Ambulance to an out of region hospital. His injuries were later deemed not life-threatening. He remains in hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the Caravan, a 52-year-old man from St. Catharines was not injured.

Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Services Unit attended the scene.

The matter remains under investigation by 1 District uniform officers. At present no charges have been laid in this matter.
