Caught on video: Four people arrested for swarming 13-year-old boy

Officers responded to a report of a large group of youths fighting on Sept. 21; a video circulating on social media led detectives to the four accused

On Sept. 21, 2022 around 12 p.m., 8 District – Grimsby uniform officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service were called to a report of a group of youths fighting in the area of Willow Way and Hemlock Way in Grimsby.

When officers arrived on scene, there was over 50 youths, with more having scattered on arrival. Within 24 hours officers were alerted to a video of the incident that was circulating on local social media platforms. The video depicted a male 13-year-old victim being punched and kicked by at least seven persons.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

The 8 District detective office was assigned to the investigation. As a result of the investigation, detectives have identified multiple suspects. Detectives have arrested:

  • A 13-year-old male from West Lincoln who has been charged with the criminal offences of:
    • Robbery
    • Assault
  • A 15-year-old male from West Lincoln who has been charged with the criminal offence of:
    • Robbery
  • A 14-year-old male from Lincoln who has been charged with the criminal offence of:
    • Robbery
  • Tyler Susi (19 years) of Grimsby who has been charged with the criminal offence of:
    • Robbery

The arrested parties have all been released from custody with future court dates.

This investigation remains ongoing and further arrests and charges are anticipated. Any member of the public in possession of the evidentiary video is asked not to share it as it could identify the victim and the charged young persons (whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada). Please delete the video.
