Police say they have charged a caretaker at a high school in St. Catharines after a student under 16 years of age was allegedly "touched in a sexual manner".
Niagara Regional Police said last Thursday, Sept. 12, the child abuse unit began an investigation into a sexual assault at St. Catharines Collegiate.
The school is at 34 Catherine St.
"Investigation revealed a caretaker from St. Catharines Collegiate had touched a student, under the age of 16 years, in a sexual manner at this location during school hours," police said in a news release.
As a result, on Sept. 18, Lawrence Paroyan, 56, of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual Interference.
Paroyan was held in custody pending a bail hearing expected to take place Sept. 19 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
"Detectives have reason to believe there may be more victims," police said.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and Paroyan is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
