On Friday, Oct. 16, 2021 at approximately 11:10 p.m., 3 District (Welland) uniform officers, the Welland Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services attended the area of Forks Road and Colborne Street in the City of Welland for a motor vehicle collision call.
Investigation revealed that a vehicle had driven into the canal.
Upon arrival, police located a trailer partially submerged, and officers could see a glow of vehicle lights under the water. There were no people observed in the area.
The Marine Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the scene and conducted their search.
On Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021 at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Marine Unit recovered a body in the same area.
Out of respect for next of kin, the identity of the male is not being released.
Foul play is not suspected.
