Arrest made in Welland stabbing investigation

On Dec. 7, 2021, 3 District - Welland uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of a stabbing in the city of Welland.

Officers received information that the male victim in his 20s was at a local hospital receiving treatment for a serious stab wound to his face.  The incident was reported to officers to have occurred at a residential multi unit building in the area of Niagara Street and West Main Street.

Officers attended the scene and their initial investigation determined that the victim and a female suspect were neighbours.  The neighbour relationship had been deteriorating due to various complaints such as noise. On Dec. 7, 2021 at approximately 2:30 p.m., the victim was confronted by the female suspect in the common area of building while she was holding a knife. The victim was subsequently stabbed.

Uniform officers arrested the female at the scene.

3 District detectives were assigned to the investigation. The scene was held while detectives were granted a search warrant. The search warrant was served, and the knife was recovered. Detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit assisted detectives and processed the scene and evidence.

Alysha Cyopeck (28 years) of Welland has been arrested and charged with the criminal offence of:
    •    assault with a weapon Sec 267 (a) CC

Cyopeck was held in custody in order to attend a video bail hearing on December 8, 2021, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
