Alleged threats on social media lead to charge

A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with uttering a death threat

On Feb. 20, 2019, uniform officers from the 2 District Niagara Falls office of the Niagara Regional Police Service commenced an investigation into threats directed towards a male youth.

The investigation determined that a 17-year-old male from Niagara Falls threatened the life of another 17-year-old male on social media. The threat alleged that the suspect would attend the high school of the complainant and do harm to him with a weapon.

The threats occurred outside of school hours and off of school grounds.

As a result a 17-year-old male from Niagara Falls has was arrested and charged with the alleged offence of:

  • Uttering a Death Threat

The male was arrested at his school.  

The accused male will attend a bail hearing on Feb. 21, 2019.

There is no ongoing threat the victim's school.

The identity of the arrested male cannot be released as per the regulations of the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada.
