21-year-old suffers life-threatening injuries in Niagara Falls stabbing

A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the incident

On Friday, Aug. 13, 2021 at approximately 7 p.m., 2 District (Niagara Falls) uniform officers, attended the area of Fourth Avenue and Hamilton Street, in the City of Niagara Falls in regards to an assist ambulance call.

Investigation revealed that a 30-year-old male and a 21-year-old male had been arguing over the ownership of a bicycle when the 30-year-old male stabbed the 21-year-old male with a screwdriver. The 21-year-old male then fled the area and got help by witnesses in the area of Fourth Avenue and Hamilton Street. 

The victim was treated by paramedics on scene and then transported to an out of region hospital by Air Ambulance with life threatening injuries. The victim is currently in stable condition.

Karl Schmidt (30 years old) was arrested and charged with the following offences of:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Fail to comply

Schmidt was held in custody pending a bail hearing that took place on August 14, 2021.
