Passed away peacefully in St. Catharines, Ont., at Heidehof Home for the aged on Tuesday October 18, 2022, in her 98th year.

Predeceased by her husband, Frank, in 1967. Cherished mother of Irma (David) Bull, Peter (Barb), Arthur (Terri) and Ingrid Schlote. Loved by her sisters Lotte Steube and Erika Dahlmann and her deceased siblings, Tony Schoeffmann, Willi Schoeffmann and Resi Kutschera, Beloved companion of Ken Madill for 25 years. Born in Kostenberg, Austria on May 16, 1925, Annie and Frank immigrated to Canada in 1950 with Irma and Peter, then added Arthur and Ingrid to the family.

After Frank died, Annie returned to school and got a job as receptionist for the Sault Ste. Marie Separate School Board. She retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Overcoming childhood traumas and war, she rose to have grace and wisdom, becoming a beacon of love for family and friends. Annie enjoyed letter writing, music and art, but was renowned for her impressive penmanship. She had a wide repertoire of Austrian cooking and made delectable desserts (like her famous apfel strudel). Annie often enjoyed hikes at Gros Cap and skiing the slopes in the Soo, earning her the nickname “Queen of the hill” With a twinkle in her eye, she brought joy to everything she did.

Loving Omi of Melanie, Susan, Jody (Lorenzo), Jeremy (Ali), Kristy, Adrienne (Chris), Drew (Kenna), Kendra, Deanna, Michael, Monica and Warren. Great Omi of Walker, Leo, Avery, Luca, Mila, Mateo, Gabriel, Vienna, Aurelia and Theo. She cherished all her nieces and nephews and friends. A memorial Mass for friends and family will be held on Thursday October 27, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Ave. Grimsby, Ont. Masks are required. A celebration of life and burial of cremated remains will be held in Sault Ste. Marie in May of 2023. Memorial donations to a local food bank would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
