605-2022 DeGasperis Pic

It is with broken hearts that the DeGasperis family announce the peaceful passing of their beloved wife, mother and grandmother.  Amerina passed away peacefully into God’s loving arms on January 15, 2022 at the Niagara Health System in St. Catharines.  Beloved wife and soulmate of 69 years to Pat.  Much loved mother of Dan (Judy), Silvio, Frank and Dora (Rob Lucchetta).  Adoring Grandma of Michael (Kendra), Mariesa (Rich), Emily, Mikaela, Rachel and great Grandma to Mikey and Ryan.  Exceptional sister of Vincenza (Ricardo), Filomena (Santino), Domenico (Maria) and the late Armando and Larry.  Cherished sister-in-law of Anna Bruni, Angela DeGasperis, Frank (Dorothy) and the late Pietro (Ersilia), Amleta (Pietro), Aurora (Vincenzo), Filomena (Carlo), Lidia (Guido), Blegina (Carlo), Roberto and Rosa (Gino).  Amerina will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and her neighbours.  Amerina was a very strong, determined and beautiful lady.  In 1952, she left San Domenico, Italy to follow her true love and begin a new life in Thorold.

She paved a new beginning for her brothers and sister who followed her path. Together the DeGasperis and Bruni families shared many happy memories in each other’s home, dancing and singing into the early morning. Amerina was happiest when she prepared numerous family feasts, especially her tasty gnocchi, fresh homemade pasta, crispelli ciambella and her famous chocolate birthday cakes.  Her eyes sparked when her children and grandchildren sat at the table enjoying the meal she prepared and each other’s company. Amerina was very proud of her family.  The past several years were challenging for Amerina but she persevered in the company of her family. Her love of family, strong will and affectionate smile will be missed and always remembered. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the emergency room and on floor 2B and 5B, whose exceptional care and kindness brought much comfort to Amerina; especially nurse Kelly in ICU and nurse Andrea on floor 5B.  As well, a heartfelt thank you to the Loyalist Transition Care floor for the care Amerina received during the past few months.

Family and friends will be received at the BOCCHINFUSO FUNERAL HOME, 2 Regent Street, Thorold from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Wednesday, January 19, 2022 by appointment only.  All COVID protocols must be adhered to including hand sanitizing, use of masks, and physical distancing.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday January 20, 2022 at 11:00 am, at OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY CHURCH, 21 Queen Street South, Thorold.  To attend either visitation or funeral mass, please call between 9:00 - 5:00 p.m. (905-227-0161) to book your appointment.  Rite of Committal at Pleasantview Cemetery.  Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or to Holy Rosary Church would be appreciated.  On-line condolences may be left at www.bocchinfusofh.com
