CARLO, Jean

1934 – 2022

At Niagara Long Term Care (NOTL) on Thursday, September 15, 2022, Jean passed away peacefully at the age of 88.  Beloved wife of the late Ken Brown (1993) and the late Ed Carlo (2003).  Cherished mother of Bill (Brenda), Bob (Lynne), Debbie (Ed) and Kevin (Kathy).  She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Scott (Carly), Hayley (Phil), Richard (Kyla), Kyle, Jake, Holly (Rick), Mitchel, Quinton and the late Joel (2021) and her great grandchildren: Olivia, Sophia, Zoey, Austin and a new addition - Baby Parker (December 2022).  Dear sister of George (Nancy), Doreen (Vic) and the late John (2016) (Karen).  Predeceased by her parents, George and Helen Hostick.

Jean loved being a wife and stay at home Mom.  Many of her children's friends thought of her as their "second" Mom.  She also loved attending her kids and then her grandkids sporting events.  She particularly loved watching them play hockey.  Although, she always thought it was the "other" player's fault if one of "hers" got a penalty.  She loved watching her Jays and Maple Leafs play.  Her favourite TV show was Wheel of Fortune, she would always pick a favourite contestant to win.  She was very proud her birth certificate stated Merritton as her place of birth.  On Saturday afternoons she loved to go to the "Dog Pound" (owned by her eldest & his wife).  She was very proud of the time she won the football pool.  She was the queen of the spelling bees, even with her late-stage dementia, she could still spell like a champ.  She disliked, turtleneck sweaters, long sleeves and Jeopardy.  However, she did enjoy a cold Coors Light and red was her favourite colour! She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,

Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

In honouring Jean’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-6 pm with a service at 3 pm at Merritton Legion, 2 Chestnut Street on Saturday, October 8, 2022.  Followed by a light lunch.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara would be appreciated by the family.  https://donate.mytributegift.org/?cid=f3e87cbb31aac52c46523d982673a436bd096dd5af34fc912c4cb470d173c963&fh=FRP-308918&fp=3089186b5c6c0632d102cc0b9fbb841d8e
