WHL Roundup: Cougars claw out win over Warriors, Winterhawks stretch win streak

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — A pair of first-period goals from Caden Brown lifted the Prince George Cougars to a 5-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday. 

Brown added an assist for the Cougars (13-9-0), while Chase Wheatcroft, Riley Heidt and Noah Boyko also found the back of the net.

Ryder Korczak contributed a goal and a helper for the Warriors (13-9-0) and Lucas Brenton rounded out the scoring. 

Prince George's Ty Young stopped 19-of-21 shots and Connor Ungar made 41 saves for Moose Jaw.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Caeden Bankier scored twice as Kamloops (10-4-3) thrashed Tri-City (8-13-0) and stretched its win streak to three games. The Blazers were solid on special teams, going 2-for-3 with the man advantage and killing off a pair of penalties.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Colton Langkow put up two power-play goals and an assist, helping Vancouver (8-9-4) to victory over Spokane (4-14-1). Zack Ostapchuk also scored twice for the Giants, while Matthew Edwards and Ethan Semeniuk each added a goal, and netminder Brett Mirwald stopped 34-of-38 shots for the win.

THUNDERBIRDS 4 ROCKETS 2

SEATTLE — Jared Davidson scored twice as Seattle (14-3-1) doubled up Kelowna (8-9-1). Kyle Crnkovic and Reid Schaefer also had goals for the Thunderbirds while Jackson DeSouza and Adam Kydd replied for the Rockets.

WINTERHAWKS 5 SILVERTIPS 2

EVERETT, Wash. — Dawson Pasternak tallied a goal and an assist as Portland (16-1-2) downed Everett (12-8-1) for its eighth straight win. Winterhawks netminder Dante Giannuzzi stopped 24-of-26 shots.

TIGERS 6 OIL KINGS 1

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Edmonton (4-18-1) opened the scoring midway through the first period, but Medicine Hat (7-10-5) stormed back with six unanswered goals to rout the visitors. Oasiz Wiesblatt led the Tigers in scoring with a goal and an assist.

ICE 3 HURRICANES 2

WINNIPEG — Zach Benson put away the game-winning goal 5:16 into the third period as Winnipeg (21-2-0) edged Lethbridge (12-10-1). Connor McClennon and Ty Nash also scored for the Ice, while Jett Jones and Miguel Marques replied for Lethbridge.
