BUFFALO, N.Y. — Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Rowdy Tellez was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday after an MRI exam revealed a right knee strain.
Tellez hurt his knee while chasing a pop-up in foul territory on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field. He was replaced for a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning of Toronto's 2-1 win over the New York Yankees.
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo, speaking on a video call with reporters on Wednesday afternoon, said Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Travis Shaw will likely handle first-base duties while Tellez is out of action.
Second baseman Cavan Biggio could also fill in if needed, he added.
Tellez is batting .283 this season with eight home runs, 23 RBIs and an .886 OPS.
Outfielder Billy McKinney was recalled from the club's alternate training site in Rochester, N.Y., and was active for the series finale against the Yankees on Wednesday night.
