Thorold takes playoff opener

Tournament style playdowns will decide the winner in Niagara Midget baseball

The Thorold Athletics came from behind to take their opening playoff game in midget baseball by a 10-9 score against West Niagara.

Down by four runs at one point, they trailed 9-7 going into the final inning.

Josh Larocque hit a double, stole third and scored the winning run on a throwing error, capping a three-run final inning for Thorold.

Thorold got doubles from Larocque, Travis Richard, Kenny O'Brien, and Liam Ashey. Singles came from Larocque, Kyle D'Angela with 2, Luke Cecchini, Farris, and Michael Kolchew.

D'Angela got the win in relief, going two innings and striking out five. Starting pitcher Ethan Jesik went three innings and tallied 3 strikeouts.

Thorold's next game is Sunday, with time and location to be announced.
