Lacrosse is growing in Thorold

Provincial tournament wrapped up yesterday and 'Grow the Game' event runs tonight

The Legends of Lacrosse tournament wrapped up at the Thorold arena this weekend with top players from Ontario tyke, novice and peewee divisions competing.

When it was over, Orangeville teams defeated St. Catharines to win the tyke and novice divisions while St. Catharines captured the peewee title by defeating Awkesasne.

Lacrosse action continues in Thorold tonight with the 'Grow the Game' event.

Bob Fisher, a director with St. Catharines Minor Lacrosse and midget coach, told ThoroldNews the event is designed to grow lacrosse in Thorold and beyond.

"We're trying to showcase the teams for Thorold and generate new memberships. There was a tryout event in Thorold this year and 80 kids came out. We're trying to grow the event and promote lacrosse," he said.

Tonight, two games will be featured as the St. Catharines peewees and midgets host Six Nations visitors.

The midget team includes three Thorold members - team captain Julian Race, Ethan Marsh, and Ethan Fisher. The team is undefeated so far this season and won the provincial bantam championship last season. The peewee team is also undefeated so far in 2019.

Everyone is invited to come out tonight and help grow the game in Thorold. The peewee game starts at 7 p.m. and the midgets game runs from 8:30 to 9 p.m.
