WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish advanced to the second round of playoffs after an 8-2 win Saturday night over Kitchener.

Welland swept the best-of-five series 3-0.

Justin Gideon went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Tyler Dupuis had three hits, two RBI and a run, Gianfranco Morello scored twice, Mattingly Romanin had two hits and two runs and James Smibert and Hogan Brown each drove in a run.

Rich Corrente tossed six scoreless innings for the win, scattering four hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Blake Jacklin hit a two-run single in the seventh inning for the Panthers.

Tyler Lawrence took the loss, giving up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits with a strikeout over 3.2 innings.
