The Welland Jackfish opened its playoff series Thursday at home with a 7-3 win over Kitchener.

Gianfranco Morello drove in two, while Hogan Brown went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Tyler Dupuis and Brandon Nicholson each had an RBI and Matteo Porcellato had two hits and three runs.

Jake Harford (1-0) went five innings for the win. He allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Chris Boatto picked up the four-inning save, scattering two hits and striking out three.

Welland, which set a league record with 202 stolen bases in the regular season, swiped six bags Thursday, with Dupuis and Brown each stealing two.

Jett Jarvis went 2-for-5 with two runs for the Panthers. Keegan Marsden singled and scored.

Christian Hauck (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits over five innings. He walked five and fanned four.
