Jackfish pick up 20th win, lead IBL standings

The Welland Jackfish had 10 hits and stole 10 bases en route to a 9-3 win over Barrie Saturday night at home.

Brandon Nicholson swiped four bags to increase his league-leading total to 35. He also went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. James Smibert drove in two runs and stole a base, Sam Cawker and Gianfranco Morello each had an RBI, Ethan Hunt scored three times and Mattingly Romanin had two hits and a run.

Rich Corrente (5-0) gave up three runs on nine hits over six innings for the win. He struck out two and didn’t issue a walk.

Adam Khan (2-2) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on three hits with five walks and two strikeouts.

Malik Williams led the Baycats offence with three hits and an RBI. Noel McGarry-Doyle had two hits, an RBI and a run, Owen Jansen had an RBI, Carson Burns went 2-for-4 with two runs and Tyler Plumpton had two hits.

First-place Welland improved to 20-6, and fourth-place Barrie fell to 16-11.
