Guelph moved within two games of Welland for first place in the IBL with a 7-4 win Thursday night on the road.

Connor Morro went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Royals (21-10). Brando Leroux drove in two, Ethan Hammond had two hits, an RBI and a run,

Brendan Keys went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI and Justin Interisano had a pair of hits and a run.

Evan Chenier (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing a run over three innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Jeify Nunez started and went three innings. One of three runs allowed was earned on four hits. He struck out three. Andrew Case struck out two in a scoreless ninth for his first save.

Rich Corrente (5-1) took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Gianfranco Morello went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Justin Gideon singled twice and scored, while Brandon Nicholson, Sam Cawker and James Smibert each drove in a run.

Welland fell to 23-8.
