KITCHENER – Welland moved one game from advancing to the IBL semifinal with a 12-2 win Friday night in Kitchener.
James Smibert went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in the victory, as the Jackfish took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Matteo Porcellato singled, homered and had four RBI. Tyler Dupuis singled three times, doubled and scored three times, and Gianfranco Morello, Mattingly Romanin and Sam Cawker all drove in a run.
Mike Wagner (1-0) went seven innings for the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with six walks and six strikeouts.
Stephen Whalen hit a solo home run for the Panthers. Jett Jarvis had a hit and scored. Jacob Douglas allowed three unearned runs on four hits over five innings, walking one and striking out four.
