Hawks win again at home

Thorold has taken three of last four home games

The Thorold Jr. B Blackhawks scored one goal in each period last night and that was enough to drop the visiting Welland Jr. Canadians by a 3-1 score.

Thorold got goals from Austin Jensen in the first period, Sam VanderZalm in the second, and Joel Chauvin in the third period.

The Hawks outshot the Canadians by a 40-30 margin but with less than a minute to go, they were clinging to a one-goal lead before Chauvin added an empty-netter.

Thorold goalie Noah Fortuna got the win as only a second-period goal by Justin Vermeulen eluded him on 30 shots.

Owen Holmes managed two assists and was named the game’s first star. Fortuna was named second star and Nicholas Kidd of Welland was named the third star.

The fifth-place Hawks added some distance between them and Welland who sit in 8th place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Thorold’s next home game is versus the third-place Niagara Falls Canucks, Thursday, Nov. 28 at 7:07 p.m.
