Hawks drop playoff opener

Thorold will be home to Pelham for game two on Thursday with start time at 7 p.m.

The Thorold Blackhawks opened their 2019 playoff season in Pelham last night and it was all Panthers.

The Panthers built momentum as the game went on, scoring one goal in the first period, two in the second and three in the third.

The Blackhawks didn’t get on the board until Dylan Latty scored an unassisted goal at 4:41 of the third period.

Thorold’s problem was penalty killing as the Panthers tallied four power play goals.

The final score was Pelham 6 and Thorold 1.

Scoring for Pelham were Owen Allan, Matt Ruigrok, Dylan Biggar, Devin Sanders, Brendan Charlton and Wyatt Thole.

Shots on goal were 40-30 in favour of Pelham. Noah Fortuna took the loss in the Thorold goal while Brandon McCorriston made 29 saves to lead Pelham to victory.

In other opening games, Hamilton downed Fort Erie, 7-4, and St. Catharines pounded Welland 7-1.
