Anchors drop opener (3 photos)

Senior men's baseball kicked off last night

The Thorold Community Credit Union Anchors hosted their home opener against the Fort Erie Cannons last night in men’s senior baseball action.

It was a close game through much of the match with the Cannons holding a 2-1 lead going into the final inning. But Fort Erie pulled ahead with three runs in the top of the 7th and final inning to take a 5-1 win.

The Anchors made it exciting until the final pitch as they had bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th but couldn’t bring them home.

Dan Boekestyn was a bright spot for Thorold with three hits and the lone RBI. Jake Maxwell had eight strikeouts through six innings on the Thorold mound.

Kris Hodges had two hits and two RBIs for Fort Erie.

Fort Erie scored five runs on seven hits and had one error for the night, while Thorold had one run on six hits and two errors.
