Wellspring Niagara did not even get a full year in its new facilities in Pelham before the pandemic made it impossible for the organization to welcome its clientele; some of the most vulnerable Niagara residents who either have had, or are undergoing cancer treatment.

Now the leadership for Wellspring remain optimistic - but cautious - as it is preparing for a planned return for some of its many popular programs for residents affected by cancer.

“We are excited about people returning,” said Ann Mantini in an interview with ThoroldToday.

“The energy of being in the centre, the vibe… It’s a sense of community.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, some in-person functions have been able to take place, although in drastically reduced capacity, and with stringent health measures in place.

What has stood out as a beacon for the organization, however, is Wellspring’s online programming, which will continue running side by side with in-person events.

One of those is the online fitness programs, geared to help cancer patients regain strength and vitality at home through personalized training programs.

“There is a lot of evidence that show that exercise helps people recover from treatment, symptom management, and hindering recurrence,” Mantini said.

“Whether it is walking, helping build stamina, or lifting for muscle tone, it is a way to get back to a normal life.”

Wellspring programming is free for all elegible Niagara resident.
