Vendor show to help mental health programs

A friend's suicide prompted Jessica Kramer to host her second vendor show at Club Belvedere, with all proceeds earmarked for the Distress Centre of Niagara.

A rash of recent suicides in Niagara has revealed the need for increased awareness of people who are suffering with mental health issues.

For the second year, Jessica Kramer will host a vendor show this month at Club Belvedere, with all proceeds slated for mental health programs.

“Last year’s show raised more than $1,500 for the Distress Centre of Niagara,” stated Kramer. “I chose the Distress Centre because I lost a close friend to suicide in 2014 and I feel like right now, more than ever, we need to bring awareness to any and all outlets for mental health help. My goal this year is to raise $2,000 or more.”

The Thorold Vendor Show takes place Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 57 John Street.

Fresh pastries, preserves and soups, along with gourmet culinary ingredients, as well as clothing, unique stained glass and artwork, custom wood and garden creations, jewellery, essential oils, and other handcrafted items will be available for purchase.

“I am trying to feature as many handmade local vendors as possible,” explained Kramer.

The 2019 show is fully booked with vendors, including JR Watkins, doTerra, Jewelz—Psychic Medium and Certified Coach, Bracelets by Cass, Sweet Mama's Pastries & Preserves, Voxxlife, Suzi’s Crazy Towel Hobby, Norwex, Sweet Legs, Summer Of Love Creations, Slurp Soup, Happy Bees Honey, Star Frost Wasteland, Scentsy, Four Seasons Skincare, Brookson’s Wonderous Wall Creations, Tupperware, Refraction Glass Works, Pampered Chef, WoD Studio, Snowflake Tiedye, Music Angel, Hot Sauces, Epicure, Thirty One and Halle Headbands.

“Last year I had a raffle table with a lot of great prizes donated by the vendors,” she said. “I am still looking for donations for the raffle table this year.”

With a Thorold office at 3550 Schmon Parkway, the Distress Centre offers a 24-hour telephone crisis hotline, manned by skilled responders, and a walk-in crisis centre, staffed by experts in crisis, distress and suicide prevention.
