Dylan Wilkinson and Dillon Defausses have started their own landscaping company.

Spring has sprung! So get those garden waste bags and start cleaning your yard.

To help local residents get the job done, 15-year-old Dillon Defausses and Dylan Wilkinson have started their own business, Dynamic D Landscaping.

“We just started doing this,” Defausses tells ThoroldToday. “We're gonna get deeper into it, but right now we're just gonna mow their lawns and clean up their yard and stuff.”

The two teens — who are football players on Thorold Secondary’s Eagles team — started the business out of necessity.

“I was trying to get a job,” explains Defausses. “I’ve handed out over 50 resumes and stuff. Not a single person is hiring so now we're just doing it for ourselves.”

“It started with my mom,” elaborates Wilkinson further. “She was like, you should go shovel snow and then I just got the idea. And then she started posting in the neighbourhood. And then I just started posting for myself.”

Now that the snow has melted, the teens are focusing on landscaping.

“Mowing lawns, mulching. cutting down weeds,” says Wilkinson. “Right now it's just spring cleanup because you can't do much ‘cause it hasn’t rained. The grass hasn't grown much. So like twigs, leaves, all that.”

But yard jobs are not the only thing the teens are offering.

“We're offering car washing as well,” says Wilkinson. “And I also do dog walking on the side too. So, not just the landscaping. We're trying to build a business.”

“We’re just trying to build it up,” adds Defausses. “We’re just trying to keep it moving.”

Dynamic D Landscaping services the whole Niagara Region and comes with its own unique gimmick: customers get to pay what they feel the work is worth.

“I don't want to have a set price,” says Wilkinson. “You see how good we do, then you give us the price on what you think it is. We're not gonna up charge you for a bad job. I want to build a reputation.”

One thing’s for certain: the teens are all-in on their business venture.

“I've also ordered business cards and flyers,” says Wilkinson. “I'm learning a lot about marketing and all that from this too.”

Even though they’ve only launched Dynamic D Landscaping very recently, the teens are already fielding appointments.

“We're gonna do the best quality work for the lowest price,” says Wilkinson. “Once I get older and have my own truck and better equipment, then driving around will be a lot easier too.”
