This holiday season the Thorold Jr. B Blackhawks are partnering up with Community Care to make every home game in December extra special by giving back.

Says Alex Rotundo, game day staff member for the team, “Each game is going to have its own little promotion. For every fan that brings a non-perishable donation they’ll be able to either be entered into a draw for a prize or receive a discounted admission. It’s going to be a different promotion for every game.”

Rotundo, who is in charge of public address and music at the games, says it’s important for the team to give back during the holiday season.

“It kind of started as a discussion after a game between myself, the team owner and the director of hockey operations. With the Christmas season coming up and especially with the pandemic, we thought it was a good way to give back to the community and ask people who come to our games to participate. This is the first year we’re doing it and hopefully it’s going to continue for years and years. ”

Rotundo thinks hockey is an important pillar of communities in Canada, especially in Thorold.

“It’s Canada’s winter sport and Thorold is such a close-knit community that the arena is like the heart of the city where people come to gather. It’s a good place to be and we, Canadians, love our hockey so I think it’s a good way to gather.”

The campaign will run during the team’s home games at the Thorold Community Arena on December 6, 11, 13, and 20. The promotions will be as follows:

Game 1 (Dec. 6 vs. Caledonia): Donors will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win Team Apparel

Game 2 (Dec. 11 vs. Hamilton): Donors will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win Signed Team Memorabilia

Game 3 (Dec. 13 vs. Pelham): Donors will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win Local Restaurant Gift Cards

Game 4 (Dec. 20 vs. Fort Erie): Discount Admission for all donors ($5 Adults and $3 Senior/Student with donation of a non-perishable item)
