Thorold Anchors to host OBA Championship this weekend

The Thorold Anchors hope to go far in the OBA Championship at McMillan Park; 'I think it’s really important for our team that people come out and support us because we play for the city'

This weekend the Thorold Anchors will be hosting the 2022 Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) Senior C-Division Championship at McMillan Park.

“We have thirteen teams from all over the province coming down in a double knock-out tournament to be crowned the Ontario baseball champion,” says Aaron McInnis, manager of the Thorold Anchors, in an interview with ThoroldToday.

The regular summer baseball season for the Thorold Anchors has just ended and McInnis is happy with what the team achieved.

“I thought our season was a success for a team that was rebuilding,” McInnis says. “We went at our own pace but we made steps in the right direction and I think we’re ready to play in this tournament.”

The OBA championship will run from Friday until Monday and will also take place at Oakes Park in Niagara Falls and Burgar Park in Welland.

McInnis hopes the weekend will be a success for the Anchors and he's looking forward to seeing local residents come out to the games.

“I think it’s really important for our team that people come out and support us because we play for the city,” he says. “When we see the support I think it gives us that extra push to want to succeed, not only for ourselves but also for the city that we play for.”

The first game of the OBA Championship will be played on Friday, September 2, at 1 p.m. at McMillan Park and the tournament will run until Monday. As always, supporters are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for Community Care.
