Thorold is closing all municipal buildings to public access until April 6, including City Hall, Operations Centre, Cemetery and Fire Stations.
The closures comes days after several recreational facilities and city services said they would shut down operations until spring due to the pandemic.
“Despite these closures, the City Staff will remain available to assist and serve the community by email ([email protected]), or phone (905-227-6613) during regular business hours,” the news release said.
The announcement is the second in a matter of days, after recreational facilities and city services also closed down in wake of the current recommendations from all levels of government.
Thorold News reached mayor Terry Ugulini over the phone on Tuesday morning.
He said he is still spending some time every day at his office, but has began working from home to adhere to the calling from several levels of government to stay at home.
“Thorold has shown resilience in the past. We have to stay calm and pull in the same direction, and we’ll get through this,” he said.
Asked what the still unknown extent of required self-isolation and social distancing measures could mean for big projects, like the Front St. redoing or other city initiatives, Ugulini says:
“We really don’t know how this will affect us. There are hurdles thrown at us every day. We are adjusting and making necessary changes to keep staff and everybody safe.”
Despite these closures, the City Staff will remain available to assist and serve the community by email ([email protected]), or phone (905-227-6613) during regular business hours.
