385 COVID patients in ICU, testing captures 13,362 new cases

Here's a breakdown of Ontario's latest COVID update for Jan. 8

Public Health Ontario is reporting 13,362 new COVID cases today, however, that total is underestimated due to limitations in who can get tested.

The Jan. 8 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 12,007 recoveries and 31 deaths
  • Of the new cases reported today, 1,714 were unvaccinated people, 398 were partially vaccinated, 10,865 were fully vaccinated, and 385 are listed as vaccination status unknown.
  • 213 patients in ICU with COVID-19 are on ventilators (6 of those patients no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 55,700 tests were processed yesterday with a 30.6 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 104,277 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, over 21 million tests have been completed.

Vaccines

  • There were 184,101 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 28,324,152 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 11,462,390 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 866,632 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 719,739 recoveries and 10,345 deaths, 4,053 of those in long-term care homes.
