Niagara Region is pleased to announce the appointment of Terry Ricketts as the new Commissioner of Public Works.

Ricketts’ appointment follows an extensive, Canada-wide recruitment process that was undertaken by an independent recruitment agency.

Ricketts joins Niagara Region from Peel Region where she has been the Director of Transportation since 2020. Prior to her work in Peel, she has held senior level positions with the City of Richmond Hill and Stantec Consulting. Throughout her career she has a positive track record of building and developing strong teams and successfully leading complex projects.

During her time at Peel she was responsible for transportation planning, capital construction, operations and maintenance, including oversight of the long range Transportation Master Plan, the Sustainable Transportation Strategy, the Goods Movement Strategy and the Vision Zero framework.

At the City of Richmond Hill she led development of the City’s first Corporate Asset Management Strategic Plan and the first Environment Strategy, directed planning and operation of the City’s stormwater portfolio, and led negotiations for the City’s waste collection contract and services.

“I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to serve Niagara Region," said Ricketts. "I am committed to working with Regional Council, Niagara residents and Regional staff to contribute to the well-being, growth and prosperity of our community.”

The Region’s Public Works Department is composed of the Waste Management, Water and Wastewater and Transportation divisions.

“On behalf of Regional Council, I am delighted to welcome Terry Ricketts as the new Commissioner of Public Works for the Niagara Region," said Jim Bradley, Niagara Regional chair. "Terry's extensive background in infrastructure management and her unwavering commitment to the communities she serves make her an outstanding choice for this important role. With her proven track record of leadership and a deep understanding of Niagara’s unique public works’ challenges, Terry is well-prepared to propel our public works department forward, delivering initiatives that will enhance our infrastructure and services that Niagara’s residents rely on daily.”

Added CAO Ron Tripp: “Terry Ricketts brings with her an impressive set of skills and previous work experience in the public works field, both in public and private sector. She will be a valuable addition to our Senior Leadership Team here at Niagara Region and I look forward to working with her as the Commissioner of Public Works.”

Ricketts will join the Region and begin her role as Commissioner of Public Works on Oct. 30.
