A long-time Thorold business advocate is handing over the torch.

John D’Amico announced he is stepping down as chair of the Niagara Board of Trade and Commerce, NBOTAC after many years in the role.

“John is perhaps one of the most recognized residents in the City of Thorold through his tireless volunteer activities. He has been particularly involved in Club Capri and the Thorold Seniors Centre, as well as the NBOTAC. His commitment to making Niagara a better place to live can not be understated,” said a statement from the board.

D’Amico, also known for growing massive Zucchinis, will now be titled ‘Past Chair’ and will still be active in the board through ‘mentoring the next generation of leaders.’

He is being replaced by Mark Kawabe, owner of The Web For Business.com, an internet marketing and website development company. Mark has sat on the board of the NBOTAC for several years and has been the secretary of the organization since 2018.

“John has left some pretty big shoes to fill” says Kawabe.

“His passion for the organization and its goals is evident in the energy and commitment he has shown. He has created a strong foundation for the NBOTAC that we will be able to build from for many years to come. I know I speak for all the NBOTAC board when I say John’s contribution to the NBOTAC was unmatched. On behalf of the board of the NBOTAC and our members, I want to express our deep gratitude to John for all he’s done and will continue to do for the organization.”
