HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity Niagara ReStores are offering customers a coupon for 25 per cent off their entire purchase if they bring in a non-perishable food item from Sept. 26 thru Oct. 6, 2022.
“This is the third year we’ve done this offer and each year we collect more items for local food banks,” said Frank Roperti, Habitat Niagara’s Regional ReStore Director. “Last year, our stores collected a combined total of over 700 pounds of non-perishable items, and we are so thankful to our customers for their help.”
This year, the Niagara ReStores are supporting the following charities through its food drive:
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore Fonthill, 2499 Hwy 20 – The Hope Centre. Needs: Hygiene products, large cans of soup, snacks (granola bars), cereal, and fruit cups.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore Grimsby, 185 South Service Rd. – The Grimsby Benevolent Fund. Needs: Juice, hygiene products, school safe snacks (granola bars, fruit cups, pudding cups, applesauce), pet food and canned chili.
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore St. Catharines, 150 Bunting Rd. – Community Care. Needs: Spaghetti sauce, baked beans, canned meat, peanut butter and canned stew.
“We are, once again, honoured to be working closely with Habitat for Humanity ReStore Grimsby for the betterment of our community in need,” said Ali Benish, food program manager of GBF Community Services. “By working collaboratively with other local organizations, we are able to sustain grocery needs for the families we support.”
“The significant increase in demand is putting a strain on our inventory,” said Betty-Lou Souter, CEO of Community Care. “We need the community now more than ever to give us the ability to keep tummies full. Every donation makes a difference and “restores” hope to those in need.”
As inflation and the cost for basic necessities increase, more people in Niagara are relying on food banks and emergency food programs.
“With the continued increase of people in our community facing food insecurity, we are so grateful to see those in our community, like Habitat For Humanity, supporting our efforts to help families put food on the table,” said Jon Braithwaite CEO of The Hope Centre.
“Agencies are reporting an increase in clients as the demand grows,” said Frank. “We want to do our part to help.”
