VIDEO: Premier Ford asks for patience for roll out of vaccine certificates

Premier Ford asks for patience during early days of vaccine certificate rollout, says enforcement will lead with education

Premier Doug Ford made his second appearance in eight weeks at a news conference this morning (Sept. 22) on the first day of the provincial vaccination certificate program roll out.

The Premier asked people to be patient during the learning period, particularly with restaurant and business owners.

"I want to be clear, enforcement will lead with education," said Ford.

He promised, again, the vaccine certificate measure would be temporary.

As of today, people aged 12 and older who will be entering and remaining in indoor spaces in certain locations such as theatres, gyms, restaurants, and recreation facilities will have to show proof they have been fully vaccinated with two doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine at least 14 days ago.

Confronted with a question about municipalities bearing the brunt of the cost of enforcing the proof-of-vaccination rules, Ford didn't commit to specifics but promised he would find financial help for municipal governments.

"We have supported municipalities since day one, so has the federal government," said Ford. "We're going to be there for them. I'll try to get every penny I can from the federal government."
