Less than 100 cases of COVID-19 in Niagara today

NRPH reports under 100 COVID-19 cases in the region for the second time this month, after 74 new cases were confirmed in Thursday's report. 

The number of known active cases in Niagara has now dropped below 2,000 for the first time in several weeks. Hospitalized COVID-19 patients are on the decline too in Niagara, after Niagara Health reported 57 patients in their hospitals, of which 22 are in intensive care.

Thorold's active case count dropped to 110 on Wednesday.

In total, close to 38 percent of Niagara residents have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with 100 percent of the region's long-term care and retirement homes are 100 percent vaccinated with both doses, according to Public Health.

Ontario reported an increase in cases today, with over 3,400 new infections logged by provincial health authorities. The day before, around 2,900 cases were reported. However, compared to the same day last week, Thursday's case count is down by 400, as ICU admissions are on the decline.

The provincial hotspot areas continue to be Toronto, Peel and York region.
