Get into the swing of summer with the sweet sounds and rhythms of Canada’s oldest continuously playing band, AKA the Thorold Reed Concert Band.

Now in its staggering 168th season, the Thorold Reed Band will welcome music-lovers once again to the downtown on Wednesday evenings.

For years, their annual free Summer Pop Series has filled the Battle of Beaverdams Park bandshell with live music from a variety of genres on Wednesday nights.

Formed in 1851, today’s version of the band is composed of nearly 50 musicians, who play well-rounded concerts, featuring a range of tunes to satisfy every member of the audience.

Everyone’s invited to bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy the live music on:  July 3, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, Aug. 7 and Aug. 14, from 7:30 p.m. until dusk.

Built-in seating is also provided by the park’s well-worn benches—historic remnants from the former Welland Canal, which once flowed through the site.
