BREAKING: First Ontario COVID-19 death reported in Barrie

The death of a 77-year-old man marks Ontario's first COVID-19 fatality

Ontario’s Ministry of Health confirmed Ontario’s first COVID-19 related death today.

The 77-year-old man died in Barrie at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, as confirmed by Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit. 

The health unit says this case was related to a case they reported on Sunday.

A person was hospitalized on March 15, and health officials say this death is related to that case.

Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed the person who died was not the original patient admitted to RVH on Sunday.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health will be releasing more information at 3:00 p.m. today.

A coroner investigation is ongoing.
