Typically the St. Catharines Fire Fighter Combat Team members are the ones running fundraisers and donating thousands of dollars that they raise to local charities. This time, they are the ones looking for support.

The St. Catharines Firefighter Combat Team was set to host the first of three, annual Firefit Events in 2020 and 2021. Then COVID happened.

“Coming off a National Relay Championship win in 2019, the team was eager to bring the excitement back home. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic halted the subsequent Firefit seasons and hindered our fundraising efforts as well,” said Corey Miller, St. Catharines firefighter and combat team member.

Finally, the team was able to hold their first Southern Ontario Regional Firefit event last June at the Seymour Hannah Sportsplex (outdoors). Over 200 fire fighters participated from across the province, showcasing firefighting tasks typically used in emergency situations.

“With a concerted effort from Meridian, the City and various local business partners, we were able to bring the community together over some exciting competition and charitable support for some great homegrown causes,” said Miller.

Once St. Catharines hosts three Regional Qualifier events, they will be able to solidify a bid to host the Canadian National Championships. This national level event has an international following that attracts teams from across the US, Germany, Britain, France, Portugal, South Tirol and Kuwait to compete.

Not only is this event a boost for the City of St. Catharines and the Niagara Region as a whole, but it also supports a team of people who have been volunteering and donating to local charities for years. The team needs to secure $20,000 in sponsorship which will just cover their cost to operate this summer’s Firefit event. Their first deposit on the event is due by mid-December.

We have been making calls and sending emails but have not confirmed any sponsorship support at this point. We need 20 commitments of $1,000 and we are there.

For those interested in further info about sponsorship, please contact Corey Miller by email at [email protected] or call 289-241-7379, or  Darryl Amos at [email protected] or call 289-686-6257.

Their annual Fire and Wine 2023 Calendar launch is set for Thursday, Dec. 8 at Konzelmann Estate Winery. Details available on Eventbrite.
