The Thorold Elite Track & Field Club is asking for your support at its third annual Pasta Night fundraiser to be held on Black Friday – Nov. 29, 2019 – at the Canadian Corps Hall in Thorold (7 Clairmont St.). The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and may be purchased in advance or at the door. A meal includes your choice of garden or Caesar salad, a fresh bun, and a hot plate of penne and two meatballs. There will also be a snack and dessert table. Drink tickets (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) will be available.

Founded in 2016 and still based in Thorold, the track club accepts athletes from all across Niagara and currently has about 50 active members who will be training and competing throughout the winter. Athletes range from as young as eight years old up to college age, and all events in track and field are offered. Due to the lack of indoor training facilities, athletes are required to travel multiple times a week to Guelph and Toronto for training. The fundraiser is to help cover the expenses of indoor training, as well as to help send a group of athletes to the National Cross Country Championships in Abbotsford, British Columbia later this month.

The club had a very successful season in cross country, producing three Zone champions, two SOSSA champions, and an OFSAA bronze medalist. This summer, the club earned three national medals and 20 provincial medals (11 of which were gold) and was crowned provincial champions in the U14 (Under 14) age category. Numerous Thorold residents have come back with provincial or national titles.
