Championship sees repeat for DM team

The Denis Morris Reds baseball team defeated the Thorold Eagles 5-4 in the finals to win the third annual Henderson’s Pharmacy High School Baseball Tournament.

The championship game featured strong pitching performances from Denis Morris starter Kyle D’Angela and Thorold starter Josh Larocque.

D’Angela recorded seven strikeouts while Larocque recorded six strikeouts. Thorold jumped out to an early 2-run lead but Denis Morris chipped away the deficit and built a 3-run lead. Down 5 to 2 in the bottom of the final inning, Thorold rallied with RBI doubles from Jacob Turner and Blake Suntz.

With the tying run on second, Denis Morris pitcher Trevor Sheppard was able to get Thorold’s batter to ground out for the final out of the game. Sheppard recorded his first save of the season. 

Kyle D’Angela was named most valuable player for the game, going 3 for 3 with two singles, a double, a walk and two RBIs in four plate appearances. D’Angela was also the winning pitcher in the championship game.

Denis Morris also had hits from Colter Naphin and Justin Pisano each with two singles while Zach Veld and Luc Cecchini each had a single.
